Pearl Jam was formed in Seattle, Washington, in 1990. The original lineup consisted of Eddie Vedder (vocals), Stone Gossard (guitar), Mike McCready (guitar), Jeff Ament (bass), and Dave Krusen (drums). Emerging from the grunge movement of the early 1990s, Pearl Jam became one of the most influential and enduring rock bands of their generation.

The band’s debut album, Ten (1991), catapulted them to fame with hits like “Alive,” “Even Flow,” and “Jeremy.” Renowned for their powerful lyrics, Vedder’s passionate vocals, and their dynamic guitar-driven sound, Ten remains one of the best-selling rock albums of all time. While Pearl Jam is often associated with grunge, their music incorporates elements of hard rock, punk, and folk, showcasing their versatility.

Pearl Jam quickly gained a reputation for their anti-commercial stance, famously battling Ticketmaster over ticket pricing and distribution in the mid-1990s. They eschewed traditional promotional tactics, focusing instead on their artistry and connection with fans through electrifying live performances.

Over the decades, Pearl Jam has released numerous critically acclaimed albums, including Vs. (1993), Vitalogy (1994), and Gigaton (2020). They have consistently evolved their sound while maintaining their core identity, addressing themes like social justice, politics, and human resilience.
